Biography

Simone Max (vers 1903 -Saint-Josse-ten-Noode 23 août 1983) est une humoriste, chansonnière et comédienne bruxelloise célèbre pour sa zwanze. Artiste de cabaret haute en couleur, Simone Max s'illustre dans des sketchs qui font la part belle aux quiproquos et aux sous-entendus coquins. La Queue de Billard et La Télévision couleur sont révélateurs de cet humour ravageur teinté d'expressions brusseleer. Simone Max interpréta des rôles au Vaudeville aux Galeries et à la Gaité. Elle commence sa carrière en 1926 à l'Alhambra où elle est entrée dans les grâces de Marcel Roels en 1933. Polyvalente, elle crée et tient le cabaret « Mon Village » dans une cave de la rue des Poissonniers à Bruxelles. Elle interprète un rôle dans le film Far west, réalisé par Jacques Brel en 1973 et présenté au Festival de Cannes. Elle fit ses adieux au public en 1971 après 48 ans de métier. Elle décède le 23 août 1983 à la clinique Saint Étienne à Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. Ses funérailles sont célébrées en l'Église royale Sainte-Marie à Schaerbeek, commune où elle résidait.

In a French seaside town, at a boarding house for civil servants recovering from surgery and maladies, the six male residents' lives change dramatically when two women arrive: Catherine, lively, sexually liberated, willing to kiss, dance, and sleep with the men, and Leonie, reserved, formal, conservative. Leonie finds herself attracted to Leon, a Belgian who was a mercenary in Katanga in 1964, wounded and carrying psychological scars as well. The other men continually play practical jokes on Leon, some of them cruel. As Leon courts Leonie, his horrid mother brings him emotional distress as do his memories of war. Can the two of them get past these obstacles?
